CAPE UNITED ELDERS
the spirit of self determination
"working together to improve the lives of seniors for over 25 years"
Program Description:
Cape United Elders [CUE] is a grassroots senior activist organization working together to improve our lives and our community.
Membership: Open to all seniors and anyone interested in CUE's mission.
Voluntary Annual Membership fee is $6.00.

Goals:
- To promote self determination and an active senior voice in the community through our own organization
- To educate and sensitize the community to the issues and needs of seniors
- To advocate for residents in nursing homes and improve quality of care
- To provide a social outlet for seniors
- To network with local, state and national organizations working on senior issues
Benefits:
- CUE gives opportunity for seniors to affect their quality of life
- The opportunity to be trained as a CUE Nursing Home Advocate certified by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs
- CUE is the only community organization in Massachusetts to have state certified Nursing Home Advocates.
- Membership Meetings featuring Entertainment and Guest Speakers; Steering Committee and Nursing Home Advocate meetings
- CUE UPDATE: a newsletter published 5 times a year containing updates on key issues and important information for seniors
Milestones:
- CUE advocates won legal, unescorted access to nursing homes to monitor quality of care
- CUE was instrumental in passing regulations that establish a public hearing process whenever there is a potential transfer of ownership in a nursing home
- CUE was pivotal in achieving passage of the Massachusetts Family Council law
- CUE was responsible for improving the discharge and emergency room procedures at Cape Cod Hospital
- Working with other community organizations, CUE won expanded B-Bus hours and secured a 42% discount for low-income electric customers
